There have been calls to do away with the current presidential system, which has been in place for the last couple of years.

Kuria now says the presidential system is still the preference for Mt Kenya, arguing that they have few parliamentary seats.

“In 2010, during the crafting of the Constitution in Naivasha, we agreed only a presidential system can benefit our people,” he said.

ODM leader Raila Odinga is pushing for a Parliamentary system, arguing that it's perfect for heterogeneous composition of Kenyan population.

Raila is keen to have the changes effected through the Building Bridges Initiative report.

“A parliamentary system is viewed as a better way to raise the majority threshold in a country where tribes view each other with suspicion in the race for power,” Raila had said last year.

“Parliamentary system is generally suitable for plural societies; that is societies in which the political landscape is composed of diverse cultural, religious, ethnic, racial and regional interests, and that is what Kenya is,” he said.
