Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i must ensure he develops Gusii region before asking locals to support his bid in 2022 presidential polls.
Although Dr Matiang'i is yet to declare his interest, all indications are that he's going for a national seat given the ongoing realignments at his backyard.
Last Saturday, a group of 30 leaders from Nyamira endorsed Matiang'i for president and on Wednesday last week, the powerful minister met 14 MPs from Nyamira and Kisii Counties.
But on Sunday at Sengera, politicians led by Kiogoro MCA Samuel Apoko and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, asked Matiang'i to first empower the region on development.
"We all love our super minister. We thank Uhuru for elevating him. However, before going for presidency, let him work in our region.
"We want to see real development and the rest shall follow. We can't talk of presidency when he's still holding a powerful seat. Let him first bring something home," said Apoko.
Mr Osoro asked the Interior Minister to recruit youths to the National Police Service among other departments, adding that unemployment crisis in Gusii is wanting.
"Let him come to villages and see what youths are going through. Before we support him, we want to see a number of youths given chance to serve government," he added.
