Lawyer Miguna Miguna has weighed in on the perceived leadership crisis in Nairobi County after incumbent Governor Mike Sonko was barred from office over graft.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Miguna said that the county must have an elected governor no matter what happens.
He said that there is no way the national government can take over the management of Nairobi yet it is one of the devolved units in the government.
He presumed that a good elected leader has the capacity to manage the affairs of the county if given the support of the people as well as the national government.
"Tokyo-Yokohama is the largest Metropol in the world with 38.5 million people but it has an elected Governor. New York City is the largest city in North America and hosts the UN headquarters but it has an elected Mayor. Nairobi isn't special. It must have an elected Governor," he tweeted.
There has been a debate on the management of the affairs of the county following the arrest of the governor.
Sonko has been barred by the courts from accessing his City Hall office of Sh357 million case where together with other county staff, he is facing charges of misappropriation of money.
He, however, maintains that he is being fought politically by 'cartels' in Nairobi adding that the anti-graft body is fighting corruption selectively.
