In an interview with NTV AM Live on Monday, Mwaura said that the handshake has brought peace into the nation but there is a need for the opposition to keep the government in check.

He said that the recent twist of events since the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga has proven that Kenya cannot do without an opposition.

“We need an opposition, this handshake is good for peace in the country but we must have people to oppose the government,” he said.

He also raised concern over the huge debt burden in the country. He said that the government has borrowed too much to the extent that it has decided to cancel some of its projects.

Speaking during the same interview, Nyamira Senator Okong'o Omogeni said that the huge foreign debt has affected the development of the economy in different ways.

He said former President Mwai Kibaki left Kenya corrupt and Uhuru will leave it at the mercy of foreigners because of the huge borrowing.

He observed that the government should be keen on how foreign loans are being utilised to avoid putting Kenyans in more trouble.

He also challenged Acting Treasury Ukur Yattani to up his game in a bid to curb the huge debt burden. He said the government cannot afford to borrow each time it thinks of initiating any project for the sake of the taxpayers.
