Deputy President William Ruto has hailed the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in its quest to collect taxes.
Speaking on Tuesday in Nairobi during KRA summit, Ruto said that the authority has done the government proud.
He noted that the payment of taxes is one of the ways to better the economy of this nation.
“KRA Chair says that the efforts they put in place have actually borne fruits. KRA has done a wonderful job,” he said.
Ruto emphasised on the need for all Kenyans to pay taxes for the sake of economic growth stating that payment of taxes is not optional.
"As a democracy, we have the power to choose our leaders, our priorities but what underpins that power to choose is the paying of taxes on which we have no option but to pay. Paying taxes is not an option," he said.
“When I got an invitation to this event, at one point I thought I had excelled in paying taxes…but I have a tax compliance certificate. I am tax compliant…” he said.
