Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has once again hit out at the Tangatanga group over an attempt to prove that indeed there was a plan to assassinate Deputy President William Ruto.
The vocal MP said politicians allied to Tangatanga, led by Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, have been desperate to convince Kenyans that Ruto's life was in danger, noting they have failed in all their attempts to link senior Mt Kenya government officials to the alleged murder plot.
"At first they alleged a committee of 54 Senior Government officials met in a basement to plan murder. The lie did not last because Kenyans could see through the deceit," he said.
"Then there was a letter purportedly from a Cabinet Secretary to the President. It did not take long before reports indicated that the letter had been drafted and circulated by a senior aide working from the Deputy President’s office," added Wambugu in reference to the State House Digital Secretary Dennis Itumbi who was arrested on Wednesday.
When he was arraigned in a Nairobi court on Thursday, Itumbi told Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Zainab Abdul that he was in possession of an audio and video of the alleged meeting at the La Mada Hotel where Ruto's killing was planned.
The blogger-turned civil servant requested the court to play the recordings in the camera, but the magistrate objected on grounds he (Itumbi) has not been charged formally.
Reacting to the development, Wambugu said Itumbi's claims cannot be authenticated since he was known for perpetuating "false" communication, and asked Tangatanga to let him carry his own cross.
"Incidentally the guy making this claim has a rich history of perpetuating false communication output within the digital space. The Deputy President’s team must stop playing with the minds and hearts of Kenyans. Stop this circus. Take responsibility for a plot gone wrong. Allow Itumbi to take his punishment like a man. And we move on. Kenya is greater than the political ambitions of any single one of us, whoever ‘who you are’" he said on Friday.
