The Head of Judiciary presided over the official opening of the new Nyando law Courts building in Nyando constituency.

He said that the two storey building will house three courts, three chambers and separate holding cells for men women and juveniles.

The ultra modern building also has consultation rooms and a lounge for advocates and judicial officers.

"Today, I presided over the official opening of the new Nyando Law Courts building. The two-storey ultra modern building has three courts, three chambers, separate cells for men, women and juveniles,client consultation rooms, and a lounge for advocates and judicial officers," the CJ said in a tweet.

CJ Maraga went ahead to reaffirm his commitment towards the ongoing war against graft.

He also weighed in on the attack on the body lately, an offensive that was kicked off by Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji during a recent interview on Citizen TV.

He vowed to defend his officers from baseless attacks.

“If they are caught doing anything wrong, they must be punished. But I will defend them to the hilt if they are just being vilified by people who they have made rulings against,” he is quoted by the Nation.

The event was attended by local leaders, including Nyakatch lawmaker Aduma Kowuor who urged Haji who accused the courts of releasing graft suspects to accept rulings and not always expect all rulings to go in his favor.

Others were area lawmaker Jared Okello and his Muhoroni counterpart Onyango K'Oyoo.
