A 50-year-old woman was arrested in Mlolongo, Athi River sub-county of Machakos county after she was found registering people to a political party.
The woman, Mary Wambui is said to have been paying each applicant Sh200 after registering.
The incident was confirmed by Athi River Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) David Juma who said that arrest was made after a tip-off by members of the public.
"Through intelligence, our people were able to arrest a woman who was registering people to a party known as the Service Party," said Juma.
The DCC said that documents for party registration and photocopies of identification cards were recovered.
"We arrested her because she never informed the administration about the exercise and she could be duping people," he said.
The local administrator warned residents to be careful and avoid giving out copies of their identification cards without verifying the purpose.
He stated that such documents can be used to commit crimes.
The woman is being held at Athi River police station awaiting arraignment in court.
Investigations to ascertain whether the Service Party is authentic are ongoing.
