ODM boss Raila Odinga has insisted that Kenya will soon be going to the polls to decide on constitutional amendments through a referendum.
Speaking at his Opoda Farm home in Bondo, Siaya County on Friday, Raila assured his supporters that the referendum will be held before the 2022 elections.
He said that the referendum bid fronted to his the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) team and that of Thirdaway Alliance will materialize will realize despite the opposition they have been facing.
“I know there are many people against the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) because it has a number of issues to be addressed, including electoral reforms. The Kenyan dream can only be achieved by looking at what our national anthem says,” said the leader.
The BBI and its taskforce picked by Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta were formed to look into the nation's recurrent political and social problems and propose the best remedies, even if it includes constitutional changes.
He added that his ceasefire with Uhuru on March 9, 2018, has also restored the nation's unity, inclusivity and peace dream, urging all Kenyans to rally behind it.
Just like Uhuru, Raila has been pushing for more inclusive leadership, proposing the expansion of the executive arm of government to accommodate more individuals.
However, the referendum push has been thrown into limbo following the approval of another constitutional amendment push led by ThirdWay Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot on Thursday.
