Politicians allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party have termed Kibra a no go zone for other parties, terming it the "political bedroom" of ODM leader Raila Amollo Odinga.

But Owalo, a former aide of Raila, on Thursday rubbished the remarks, saying that long gone are the days when parties claimed to own some parts of Kenya.

He said that there is a need for political players to observe democracy and cease making alarming remarks, to avoid undoing the steps the nation has made towards democracy.

Speaking on KBC radio, Owalo stated that all parties and politicians should be allowed to campaign anywhere uninterrupted, dismissing the bedroom remark as "nonsensical".

"Gone are the days when parties were said to own this or that area. We must have the democracy to campaign anywhere. (Siku za kusema eti hii ni sehemu ya chama hiki ama kile ziliisha, lazima tuwe na demokrasia ya kupiga kampeni popote)," he said.

The politician also revealed that he had been warned against stepping foot at Jamhuri Grounds, where his rally was disrupted by alleged ODM supporters on Sunday.

He noted that Kibra is not as ODM-allied as ODM politicians are trying to make it appear, likening it to an "empty bedroom".

"I entered that bedroom but there was no wife inside, so I don't understand what they are talking about. (Nimeingia hiyo bedroom na hata sikupata bibi kule ndani, so sijui wanaongelea nini)," he added.

ODM has fronted Imran Okoth for the race.
