The government of Zimbabwe and the family of the late former President Robert Mugabe’s are yet to agree on his final resting place as the body is set to arrive in the nation’s capital Harare, Wednesday.

The kinsmen want the liberation hero laid to rest at his rural home in the village of Kutama in Mashonaland West province. 

The government, however, wants the remains of the man who led the country for more than three decades, buried at Heroes’ Acre shrine just outside Harare. 

Dozens of mourners gathered at his rural home, which is guarded by one security personnel to pay their last respect the deceased. 

Mugabe who died at the age of 95 was removed from power through a coup in 2017.

His nephew, Leo Mugabe, has however denied claims that there were differences between family and government.

He also said that Mugabe died a bitter man after he was removed from power by force by the people he stood with at the toughest moment of his life.

“He was bitter. You can imagine people you trusted - people that were guarding you, looking after, your security turn against you. He was very bitter and it dented his legacy," Leo said in a BBC story published by Daily Nation. 

Leaders from different parts of the world have mourned the deceased as a pillar of strength and bold decision-maker. 

President Uhuru Kenyatta in a tweet said the death of Mugabe was not only a big blow to the African continent but also the entire world. 

 The government has announced his burial amid the standoff.
