Will the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna resign after Ekuru Aukot’s Thirdway Alliance Kenya party garnered over one million signatures in its bid to amend the Constitution?
Speaking during an interview at KBC, Sifuna had vowed to resign if Thirdway Alliance Kenya party attained one million signatures.
“I know what it takes to raise 1 million signatures. Third way Alliance in this country is a nuisance, they are here for nuisance value. I can guarantee you and I can bet here in front of this country that if Thirdway Alliance is able to get a million signatures, I will resign as Secretary-General of ODM. I know for a fact they cannot do it,” he said.
However, the former presidential candidate's party proved Sifuna wrong by getting a total of 1,222,541 signatures from different genuine registered voters across the country.
Aukot wants some Constitutional amendments made. His campaign will look to reduce the number of MPs among other significant changes.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) allowed the proposal to be submitted to the 47 county assemblies for deliberation before being taken to the parliament for further discussion.
It is not clear whether ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna will resign or he was just making empty vows as many politicians do.
