Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has claimed that there is a plot to save embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu from impeachment.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Mwaura lamented that the Senate is biased after 11 members were picked to listen to the matter.
The house was compelled to adjourn for 10 minutes after the members read malice in the list presented to them to address the impeachment of the governor. Mwaura questioned why Central Senators were excluded from the list yet the governor hails from the same place.
He claimed that the leaders from the region are better-placed to understand the problems of the residents than anyone else. Mwaura argued that the committee is likely to be unfair in its report to the house
"The senate list to impeach WAITITU as Kiambu Gov is rigged to save him. The speaker refused to recall the senate within 7 days to create a technicality. We go the plenary way. 6 senators cannot be used to defeat the will of the people of Kiambu. #WaitituImpeachment #KijanaMtetezi," he tweeted.
After the Senate decided to go the plenary away, Mwaura said that he is glad by the fact that he led his colleagues in opposing the suggestion of a committee to oversee the impeachment of the governor.
"Glad 2 have led a protest against the list of 6 senators saving WAITITU from impeachment at the expense of the suffering of the people of Kiambu. The scheme failed as senate voted No. I stand to defend the interests of my home county fearlessly #KijanaMtetezi #WaitituImpeachment," he tweeted.
Kiambu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) impeached the governor over graft. The Senate announced the special sitting after weeks of deliberation on the matter.
