Rakeli Njeri was allegedly beaten by her husband's brother, his wife and son, over allegations of preventing him (her husband)  from agreeing to a land sale deal.

The woman, who says that he was invited for a chat by the roadside before realizing it was a trap, says that the brother-in-law already has a buyer for the nine-acre family land.

“They attacked me with a panga and other crude weapons, accusing me of influencing and inciting my husband against his elder brother's decision to sell the land. He has a buyer for the entire land including the two acres belonging to my husband,” she said from her hospital bed.

The assailants are also said to have assaulted Njeri's husband Duncan Waruingi, after he tried to protect his wife from the group.

Mr Wariuingi said that the suspects descended on him when he responded to his wife's distress calls, sustaining injuries as well.

“I found her on the ground bleeding. They descended on me when I went to defend my wife,” said the man.

His brother is said to have transfered the land to his name to his elder brother's name without his consent, with the help of some land officials, leaving only 2 acres for him.

Mr Simon Maina, a village elder, said that the two have been in a land tussle for over 20 years, since the death of their parents.
