The 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga has really saved the president from his deputy William Ruto, claims lawyer Ambrose Weda.
The truce came amid a bad political enmity between the two, after Raila rejected Uhuru's twin re-elections in the 2017 polls, claiming to have been rigged out in the first one.
Weda, also a political analyst, says that Uhuru would be at the mercy of Ruto in parliament had he not reconciled with Raila, which has seen him acquire the backing of Raila-allied MPs.
He says that with the DP enjoying massive support in both houses; Senate and National Assembly, the DP would be using his parliamentary muscles to control the president.
"The DP has taken over the parliament. Without Raila's support, he would be kicking president Uhuru around," he said in an interview on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation on Wednesday.
Apart from MPs elected on the Jubilee Party ticket, the DP has also successfully captured a section of others from other parties, including Raila's ODM party.
His influence has also affected Uhuru in his Mt Kenya backyard, where a majority of the MPs are in support of the DP and have even been criticizing Uhuru's leadership lately.
But Uhuru has been basking in the backing of ODM and opposition allied MPs, which has enabled him to repelled attacks fired at him by the Ruto camp.
