In one of the most unlikely scenarios, ODM leader Raila Odinga on Thursday brought businesses into standstill when he made his way into Lodwar town.

Mr Odinga will be the chief guest for the ongoing Turkana festivals, and is expected to navigate over tough political terrains given the recent realignments in the county.

Shockingly, Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok, who had earlier ushered in DP William Ruto, turned up to receive Mr Odinga. The two are reading from different scripts.

With Nanok have been kicked out of ODM Vice Chairman position in favour of Loima MP Jeremiah Lomorukai, a number of ODM insiders had expected rough reception.

"Thank you Lodwar for the warm welcome and I look forward to attending this years edition of the Turkana Tourism and Cultural Festival, Tobong'u Lore. Asanteni," said Odinga in reference to reception.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, a close confidant of Mr Odinga, described the reception as extraordinary, an indication that they expected something different.

"Accompanied my party leader Rt Hon Raila Odinga for a visit to Turkana county. The reception was none like before .. Beautiful. #ODMMbelePamoja," he said.

A similar observation was made by the party's Communication Director Philip Etale, who took a jab at Governor Nanok, insisting that the county is still ODM stronghold.

"The people of Turkana are so mature that they don’t need to be pushed by someone into supporting a man they don’t like. They know whom they can entrust their interests with. RAO is their all time favourite and in him they have confidence," he said.

Despite being in Rift Valley, Turkana County has always voted for Mr Odinga since 2007. Dr Ruto has visited the region a couple times this year.
