Garissa governor Ali Korane has landed in trouble over his leadership's alleged misuse of funds meant for construction of dams and sinking of boreholes in the arid-county.

Mr Korane on Tuesday landed before senators at the senate, where he had it hard explaining why some of the dams are yet to he completed while other contain water unfit for use.

Appearing before the senate Public Accounts Committee, the county boss was at pains to explain hia choice of restricted tendering that gobbled Sh53.1 million.

The technique was used to award the tenders for sinking of the Dogob borehole and Kotile, Halijarire, Hagalbul and Hubi water supply extensions in mid-may2018.

The Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang-led committee also found out that no chemical analysis was conducted on the water.

At the same time, there was no approval from the Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA).

The committee found that the governor did not avail the required documents regarding the dams construction to auditors investigating use of funds for the year ending on June 30.

“The auditors were in your county. They wrote you a management letter but you failed to provide the required documents,” said Kajwang.

The contract agreements between the county and contractors were also found to be lacking completion dates.
