Deputy President William Ruto will on Thursday visit Gusii region, an area his team has earmarked as a possible tossup ahead of 2022 polls.

For the past ten years, the region has supported opposition leader Raila Odinga, whose influence still in the region remains intact despite the uncertainty.

Dr Ruto last visited in June when he attended a couple of fundraisers in Nyamira North and Masaba North despite the fact that a number of leaders ditched his camp for Dr Fred Matiang'i.

Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose, one of Ruto's pointman from the region, said the DP will attend the Kisii National Polytechnic graduation.

"He will be coming ostensibly for graduation. He has gone to several such functions across the country so this shouldn't be the odd one out," he said.

A fortnight ago, Dr Ruto held closed door meetings with delegations from Gusii at his Karen home where they discussed a number of development activities.

Last week, the same delegation under Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi and North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko also met at Ruto's residence.

Already, Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi has ditched Dr Ruto's team and has been pushing for Dr Matiang'i's candidature.

"We get together first as Abagusii and evaluate whether we should field someone or we talk to other communities. For now, let's support Dr Matiang'i," she said in a past event.

Dr Matiang'i is being pushed to join national politics with Senator Okong'o Mogeni and Governor John Nyagarama leading such calls.
