Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai on Friday presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of new buildings at Matutu Police Station in Borabu, Nyamira County.
Addressing residents, Matiang'i termed the move as part of the government's modernisation programme for the National Police Service (NPS).
"I urge police officers to continue serving residents diligently without fear or favour. The new buildings will help boost service delivery to our people. Residents need to have a cordial relationship with police officers to curb crime," noted Matiang'i.
He further confirmed that more police officers will be deployed to the region following the increased cases of cattle rustling.
Matiang'i warned residents against engaging in crime adding that no one is above the law.
"The law will not spare anyone breaking the laws which govern our country. Cattle rustlers must be flushed out from their hideouts," noted Matiang'i.
Inspector Mutyambai echoed Matiang'i's sentiments, adding that plans are underway to open two more patrol bases in the area to curb cattle rustling.
Mutyambai further noted that 300 police officers will be deployed to the troubled Nyamira-Bomet border in a bid to boost the fight against cattle rustling in the region.
He appealed to residents to continue providing information to police that will lead to the arrest of criminals.
