British American Tobacco Company has unveiled its plans to launch smoke-free cigarettes.
The firm is expected to invest Sh2.5 billion production plant as it seeks to remain at the top of the game.
Confirming the new development, BAT’s Managing Director Beverly Spencer said that the introduction of the new product will transform the lives of millions of smokers.
The firm has reached the decision in a bid to reduce the risk associated with passive smoking.
Smokers have also been restricted to certain areas. According to Spencer, the new cigars do not produce any smoke because they are heated and allowed to generate vapour.
The vapour contains nicotine, which brings about an exciting feeling to the smoker.
“It is the smoking and the burning of tobacco that creates the risks associated with cigarettes, which is why we want to introduce the pouches,” Spencer said.
Various countries in the world have embraced this type of cigarette in the market.
Some of the countries where you will find smoke-free cigarettes include Tanzania, the US, Sweden and Italy.
