In a video clip which went viral immediately after the church event which took place in Giakanja high school ended, a man was seen being mercilessly whipped by another man who has been alleged to be Ruringu ward MCA Samuel Kariuki.

The clip elicited sharp reactions as a section of Kenyans called for the immediate arrest of the MCA while another one justified Mr Kariuki's action.

Speaking exclusively to KTN TV, Joseph Wang'ombe denied being part of the rowdy youths and said he was on his business before he was attacked.

"I saw people running and I also started running. I was passing by and I was chased with a stick and from there I was beaten (Niliona watu wakikimbia ata mimi nikaanza kukimbia. Sasa mimi nilikuwa napita sasa nikaanza kukimbizwa na mti kutoka hapo nikaanza kuchapwa)" Mr Wang'ombe said.

Nyeri town member of parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has been on the forefront calling for the prosecution of Samuel Kariuki who doubles up as the Deputy County Speaker for Nyeri County.

"It’s now 8 days since the chap below, an MCA and the Deputy Speaker Nyeri County Assembly was caught on camera beating up a Nyeri resident as his goons shouted. The police haven’t arrested him. They say they can’t find him," Ngunjiri posted last Sunday.
