Police in Eldoret on Friday confiscated contraband goods in Kamukunji estate in the outskirts of Eldoret town.
According to Eldoret West OCPD Zacharia Bitok, the illegal goods cost Sh2 million.
"The 7 am Friday morning raid at Kamukunji following a tip from members of the public saw the recovery of 27,000 sachets of various brands of illicit Alcoholic drinks (Spirits) from Uganda, cartons of Supermatch cigarettes and bales of banned flat plastic bags," said the Eldoret West OCPD.
Bitok spoke to the press at the Eldoret West Police Station on Friday.
He said the contraband goods come from Uganda and they enter the country through the border using illegal means.
"We have arrested two suspects who are in our custody and they will be facing charges in court on Monday," stated Bitok adding that "one of the suspects is a known person notorious for the importation of contraband goods and has several cases in court that are undetermined."
The recoveries have been secured as exhibits.
He further said that most of the alcoholic drinks are in sachets and cigarettes which are supposed to be for export but they are diverted back to the local market.
Bitok called on residents to act as their watchdog by reporting anybody involved in selling illegal alcohol saying they will face the full wrath of the law.
