Speaking to members of the press on Thursday, the ICT CS sought to allay fears regarding the security of the data that will be collected from Kenyans during the counting exercise.

He highlighted a list of measures that have been taken by the government to ensure the security of the data.

"I would like to first assure Kenyans that your data and information is safe and secure. We have ensured that we have several security measures that we have put in place to ensure that all the information that we collect is not only stored in a secure place but we have full redundancy," the ICT CS said

CS Mucheru said the gadgets being used for the exercise have been assembled locally, and have local software therefore granting full control to the government.

He further noted that a special network has been created to send the data collected by enumerators from the devices to specific data centres, adding that the devices are protected and cannot be tampered with by the enumerators.

He added that there is sufficient data storage to store data from all Kenyans during the census exercise.

Mucheru divulged that the government spokesperson and the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics Director General will have daily media briefing to update Kenyans on progress of census.
