ODM leader Raila has finally broken his silence on the arrest and subsequent arraignment of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
The Nairobi County Chief was arrested on Friday in a dramatic arrest in Voi over alleged misappropriation of Sh357 million.
While speaking for the first time over the matter, the former Prime Minister condemned the manner in which Sonko was arrested.
In an exclusive interview with Nation, Raila exuded confidence that Sonko would be given a fair hearing in Court.
"It was very humiliating to see him arrested in such a fashion. The authorities could have an explanation on why they did it that way but it was not pleasing," the African Union Special Envoy on Infrastructure Development said.
Sonko's arrest elicited mixed reactions with many politicians and citizens alike condemning the manner in which he was nabbed.
Top Nairobi politicians including Embakasi East lawmaker Babu Owino and Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris, criticised Sonko's arrest saying that it was inhumane.
The flamboyant Governor who has already been arraigned in court alongside several others over graft claims, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Sonko blames his woes on a section of the political class claiming it is out to frustrate his tenure as Nairobi Governor.
