Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu on Sunday left everyone in shock after he declined to address a function attended by Deputy President William Ruto.
In a video shared on Facebook, Wambugu is seen standing and waving at the crowd before he takes the seat.
The crowd is heard murmuring but the lawmaker stands his ground and sits after the salutation.
Later on, the MP accused Ruringu Ward MCA Samuel Kariuki of conspiring with goons to harass his supporters.
He said that one of the supporters have been injured to the point that he decided to record a statement with the police.
The MP also claimed that the MCA was behind the burning of President Uhuru Kenyatta's T-shirt.
"There’s a tall guy here - wearing a sleeveless jacket, and carrying a stick. He’s the area MCA Ruringu - one Kariuki. His work today was to beat up anyone associated with me, then hand them over to the police. He had sworn that I would not attend the event in Giakanja. At some point he even tried to throw a stone at my car as I was getting in. The guys carrying sticks are part of his gang. They are also the ones who burnt Uhuru’s T-shirt’s. Their work was to identify my supporters, beat them up, then hand them over to police. The other fellows with him call themselves ‘serikali ya vijana’" he posted.
Before the meeting, Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria had claimed that Wambugu had planned to disrupt the event.
Kuria went on to ask Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and his PS Karanja Kibicho to take action against the lawmaker for making such a plan.
