Police officers in Kisii County have launched a manhunt for a 70-year-old man who allegedly defiled his 13-year-old granddaughter.
Lydia (not her real name), wife to the suspect said he sneaked into his granddaughter's bedroom on Friday at their home in Nyaribari Chache where he forced her to have sex with him.
"This is not the first time he is having illicit sex with minors. He is used to raping young girls. The victim screamed in the bedroom and I rushed there only to find him half-naked in the act," the wife narrated.
Area clan elder (his name withheld) said the suspect escaped from the house after his wife rushed out to call neighbours.
"It is shocking that the man decided to rape his granddaughter. Men like him belong to jail. He will not return to this village," said the elder.
Kisii County Police Commander Martin Kibet said police officers are doing everything possible to nab the suspect.
"Member of the public should cooperate and provide information about the whereabouts of the suspect to the police for him to be apprehended," Kibet noted.
The victim was rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment following the injuries she sustained during the ordeal.
