Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is expected back in the county this weekend after his long stay in the US.
The County Director of Communications Richard Chacha has revealed that the county boss will jet into the country on Saturday afternoon after a working tour in the US.
His one-month vacation to the US has been criticised by several quarters. A few days ago, he was trolled for issuing a statement regarding 'Wakali Wao' gang terrorising Kisauni residents.
However, the criticism was catalysed when the governor shared a video enjoy a happy moment with an American media personality, Paris Hilton.
The video was shared just a day after Wakali kwanza had terrorised residents in Bamburi and Kisauni, which sparked a fierce debate on social media.
However, Chacha and Deputy Governor William Kingi defended Joho against accusations that the tour was not beneficial to Mombasa residents.
An official programme released by the governor’s office revealed that Joho's schedule in the US was to start on July 8 and end on July 12.
Chacha said that Joho's extension won't be a burden to taxpayers' money.
“County employees have imprest and so is the governor. If he does an extension then the money comes from his pocket,” said Chacha as quoted by Nation.
Dr Kingi, on the other hand, said that Joho held extra meetings that had not been pre-scheduled but were all important to Mombasa residents, adding that those lashing out at the governor were only playing politics.
“Investors will not come if we do not go out there. The governor is our CEO and he has to go out and look for opportunities. He has been able to also meet some celebrities who have expressed interest in coming to invest in our county, something that will boost our tourism industry,” said Dr Kingi.
Joho was last seen in the county during President Uhuru's visit.
