Renowned radio family therapist Ann Muratha has sought to address once and for all the constant squabbles in many Kikuyu households involving mothers-in-law and their sons' daughters-in-law.
Muratha says that these 'useless fights' are as a result of mother-in-law and daughter-in-law failing to understand their place and role in the life of the man they are always fighting over.
"For you mother-in-law, why are you always quarrelling your son's wife even for no apparent reason? Don't you know that your son's wife and you are both newcomers? The only difference between you and that daughter-in-law is that you came to the family earlier than her," Wamuratha says in a video uploaded on her YouTube channel.
She adds: "Let mothers-in-law avoid igniting these unnecessary fights that have denied our sons' peace at home as they are always torn between lines on whose side to lean on between you his mother and wife."
As for daughters-in-law, the lively counsellor, notes that they are also to blame for these squabbles too, saying that many sit back as the mothers-in-law occupy their rightful positions in their husband's life.
"You should let your mother-in-law know that you are there to stay and you should not be seen to fight for her attention and recognition because she is not the one who made you leave your people to come to that family. Focus on keeping your husband happy and satisfied in all areas," she adds.
Wamuratha points out that a situation where your husband is always hanging around his mother ought to be a clear signal to you that you are not doing enough or giving him sufficient reasons to be around you as a bee is to a nectary flower.
