A section of leaders from the Mt Kenya region has asked the allies of Deputy President William Ruto to respect President Uhuru Kenyatta as he seeks to leave behind a legacy before 2022.
MPs Kanini Kega(Kieni), Ngunjiri Wambugu (Nyeri Town), Irungu Kang’ata(Murang’a Senator) and Sabina Chege (Murang’a Woman Representative) on Saturday said that the allies of the second in command have been frustrating the President.
Speaking at Chaka market in Kieni constituency in Nyeri, they said that Ruto’s camp needs to know that Uhuru deserves respect.
They said that it is evident that the lawmakers have refused to obey orders from the President and they are conducting campaigns at the expense of development.
“We are no longer going to entertain that behaviour here in Nyeri. You have seen they have even been coming to insult us here. We shall not allow that,” Kega said.
Kega noted that respect for the President is demand and not request as perceived by some of the allies of Ruto. They asked those caught on the wrong side of the law not to drag the name of the President in their woes.
Wambugu said that some of the leaders from the region are acting as if we have two governments when that is not the case.
He warned that unless the leaders started respecting the head of state they are in for a rude shock.
Sabina and Kang’ata reiterated the sentiments of the two leaders during the meeting.
