Renowned lawyer Nelson Havi has raised concern over the manner in which Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was arrested on Friday.
In an interview with KTN on Sunday, Havi hit out at the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji, over his comments that his office faced numerous challenges while investigating Sonko.
"The Director of Public Prosecutions can't complain that this was a difficult case to investigate. He can't be coming on TV everyday to lament about the difficulties of his job. If he thinks that the job is difficult he can leave," he said.
He took issue with how Sonko was arrested, adding that it should have been done much better and more professionally.
Havi also noted that Sonko had previously raised allegations against EACC investigative officers, adding that the court should not ignore the same.
"The most fundamental business that the Court must deal with is the manner in which the suspect was dealt with. It shouldn't be happening now," Havi opined.
"We must take to account allegations that have been made by Governor Sonko against the head of this investigation. Evidence has been given before Courts of law," he added.
Addressing the media on Friday, Haji said the Sonko investigation was so challenging, adding that there were attempts to derail the entire process.
"Investigation into these crimes have been challenging because of the repeated attempt by the accused to obstruct the cause of the investigations by deploying investigation tactics in addition to using goons to threaten law enforcement officials carrying out their constitutional mandate,” Haji said.
