Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been put on the spot over the tenders on garbage collection and disposal.
The first-term county boss is expected to appear before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to shed more light on the tender award after it emerged that the details remain unclear.
The county boss will appear before the headquarters of the anti-graft agency on Tuesday. He will record a statement on the matter as probe into the tender award gains momentum.
The tender was awarded for the 2017/18 and 2018/19 financial years.
Abdi Mohamud, who is tasked with investigations at the EACC, has since written a letter to Sonko asking him to appear before the commission to explain what transpired during the tender award process.
The governor was expected to appear before the commission on Friday but he failed to do so.
“I would like to give Tuesday, September 3, as the day I will be available for the same due to unavoidable circumstances,” Sonko said in his reply.
It emerged that the officials at City Hall’s Environment department are not able account for the funds the government used in the tender allocation.
A report presented to Nairobi County Assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC) shows that the government allocated Sh160 million to contractors but the project has stalled.
The county boss also needs to defend his government over the irregular award of the tender.
