This comes only months after Uhuru's visit to the museum earlier in the year, which also hosts the Jaramogi mausoleum, where he directed that it be given a facelift.

According to the National Museums of Kenya (NMK), the decision has further been informed by a large number of visitors touring the museum.

NMK Regional Coordinator for Antiquities, sites and Mununents Daniel Arap Mitei on Wednesday said that the same will as well affect other such sites across the country,  despite lack of funds.

Speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday, he added that the firm is also intending to refurbish 100 archaeological sites across the country at an estimated cost of Sh2 billion.

“So far, we are sourcing for funds from multilateral donors and line tourism development agencies to do the repairs,” he told the Standard at a Kisumu Hotel.

At the Jaramogi museum, some of the things on display are the belongings that were used by the leader who died in 1994, including artefacts, his clothes and his old pictures.

Also on display are his flywhisks, akala shoes (shoes made of vehicle or motorbike tyres), goatskin and a bed.

“Our intention is to do a major facelift of some of the historical sites to attract more investors and pilgrims,” said Mitei.
