Three suspected gangsters were shot dead on Saturday night in Kamukunji, Nairobi.
According to the DCI, police intercepted the three suspected criminals along Landhies road, while on their way to commit a crime after a tip off.
The DCI further noted that the three were asked to surrender, but instead fired at the police.
"A combined team of DCI and police officers based at Kamukunji, acting on a tip-off from the public on notorious criminals on a mission to commit crime, managed to intercept them along Ladhies road, where they were challenged to surrender but instead shot at our officers," DCI's statement read in part.
After the suspects opened fire, the police were forced to retaliate, leading to fierce exchange that saw three gunned down, while one suspect managed to escape.
"A fierce shoot out ensued whereby three suspects were fatally wounded, as the fourth one escaped towards Muthurwa Estate," DCI added.
One conther pistol, one min 8 pistol, a pen knife and four rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspects.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect who escaped towards Muthurwa estate.
