Speaking on Sunday in Masii, Mutua said a section of social media users especially the youth, are using social media as a tool to 'unleash terror' on others.

Mutua said some users hide behind social media, attack others, and lose respect for leaders.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we have reached a point where social media is abused, and has become a terror group. Hiding behind anonymity that you can abuse the president and leader," he said.

He said in countries like the United Arab Emirates, social media is regulated and such nations are doing well.

Mutua's sentiments were supported by Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Maliti who said it is sad for youths to engage in insults, and attack others online, instead of finding ways to benefit from the sites.

He urged the government to come up with laws regulating the use of social media in the country..
