Kavivya Mwangangi, a suspect in the murder of Catholic priest Michael Kyengo on Friday narrated to Senior Principal Magistrate Hellen Onkwani how he participated in the priest's killing and the amount he was paid to commit the crime.
Mr Mwangangi was arrested on Thursday after being identified as a key suspect in the murder case, before confessing on Friday that he was paid Sh1,500.
“My friend came to me and asked me to assist him to make some offering,” Mr Mwangangi told the court as reported by the Daily Nation.
He narrated that the main suspect, Michael Mutunga, instructed him to tie the legs and hands of the priest before they butchered him.
“Mutunga came in a car. I woke up, dressed up, then boarded the car. I did not know where we were going to make the offering. Mutunga left me in the car and strolled to the river bank. He returned and opened the boot of the vehicle. Inside, I saw a man who was naked. He gave me a rope and asked me to tie the man’s hands. We led him down the river and I was asked to tie his legs too," he narrated.
He also stated how they transferred money from the victim's mobile banking account before killing him.
The case will be mentioned on November 6 after Mwangangi records his confession before a chief inspector as required by law.
