Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday called personally nine disgruntled Jubilee party aspirants for Kibra by-election nominations, it has now emerged.
Peter Kinyanjui and eight others had moved to Political Parties Tribunal, accusing the Jubilee party of imposing Mr McDonald Mariga as candidate ahead of November 7th by-election.
“To make matters worse, the said selected person is neither a resident nor a voter of Kibra Constituency and there are serious doubts whether or not he has ever voted," he claimed.
But on Thursday, the nine withdrew the case, arguing that they have since agreed to work together for the sake of avoiding further squabbles.
"We act on behalf of the applicants and we wish to formally inform you that they have unconditionally agreed to withdraw the suit," a letter from Jacob Oloo Advocates read.
But it has now emerged that Dr Ruto personally called the disgruntled team and asked them to unconditionally drop the case to allow Mariga contest.
According to a source at Harambee Annex, Ruto was concerned that the suit would delay Jubilee party campaigns for the former footballer, McDonald Mariga.
"He was concerned with the squabbles and made a call to all of them. They agreed to meet and drop the suit. He is set to return to Kibra on Sunday," said the source.
Despite the support from Dr Ruto, a section of senior Jubilee members led by Moses Kuria and Maina Kamanda have vowed to support an ODM candidate for November 7th polls.
