In a series of tweets quoted by the Guardian, Trump said that the US was "locked and loaded."

"[We] are locked and loaded depending on verification, but are waiting to hear from the Kingdom [of Saudi Arabia] as to who they believe was the cause of this attack and under what terms we would proceed!” he said.

Experts have warned that the attacks on the Aramco facility will upset global oil prices as they affected more than half of Saudi Arabia's output.

The tweet was the first time that the US head of state talked about resorting to a military response amid the Persian Gulf crisis pitting Saudi Arabia against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to BBC, Trump used satellite images and intelligence reports to back up his claim that Iran was behind the attacks.

Iran has strenuously denied the accusations lashing out at the US over what it called engaging in maximum deceit.

Top officials in the Trump administration speaking to the New York Times on condition of anonymity, said that the attacks emanated from a west-north-west direction and not from Yemen.
