While confirming the withdrawal of his security, the Nandi Senator claimed that they were unfairly being targeted by the government for having divergent political views.

Cherargei who is the Senate Chairperson of the Justice, Legal Affairs and Human Rights Committee said his security was withdrawn as soon as the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai finished making statement directing the withdrawal of security detail of leaders facing charges in court.

“Uhuru is taking us back to the Kanu era. The days of intimidating and harassing those who were not in agreement with the leadership. Kenyans are being killed in North Eastern but the government is busy withdrawing security from certain leaders,” the senator said.

The Senator further confirmed that he was in the process of acquiring a new firearm.

While hitting out at Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, the outspoken senator claimed that the CS is now misusing his position to intimidate those perceived to be opposing the Building Bridges Initiative, which has of late caused sharp political divisions in the country.
