Ruto who spoke during the official opening of the Living Room International Hospital in Eldoret, Uasin-Gishu County,  said that the push for a referendum should be aimed at solving problems facing Kenyans and not the creation of positions in government or fighting for power.

He reminded the Raila led team to stop sideshows at the expense of development.

Ruto, who is considered one of the frontrunners in the race for power, said that the push for constitutional changes will only make sense if it takes into account the problems facing the people of Kenya.

“These constitutional amendments (referendum) calls should not focus on divisive politics. I would ask that the whole process goes through a transparent progression that is not focused on who wins and who loses. We need a review that is meant to unite all Kenyans without creating camps because for us to move forward, we need to walk together in this journey,” Ruto urged.

Raila who spoke during a tour in Kibra where he announced his plan for the by-election, said that the referendum will deal the DP a huge blow since it will sweep away his allies.

“There are very good views from Kenyans and once the report is out, we will publish it for Kenyans to give their views then go for a referendum. I have seen a storm, there are signs that it will rain. There’s is a storm that will take all the Tanga Tanga people to the ocean,” he said as quoted by the Standard.
