Hundreds of people were rendered homeless early this week after they were ordered out of their land following a court ruling that declared them encroachers.

On Thursday, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala led five other MPs in protesting the evictions, giving DP William Ruto travel restrictions to Western Kenya over the crisis.

"I don't want to mince my words on this, I want to tell the Deputy President you are not welcome in our area if our people are being evicted from Nandi," Malala said.

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang however disputed claims that those affected were illegally thrown out, arguing that the owner of the land sad implementing a court order.

ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale confirmed that a host of Luhya leaders travelled to Nandi on Friday but they were due to address the media.

"A group of Legislators from Western Kenya together with the @TheODMparty Secretary General @edwinsifuna have landed at the village where hundreds of families were forcefully evicted on Wednesday in Chesumei Constituency of Nandi County. They will address he media from the ground," he said.

Despite the warning by Malala on Thursday, Dr Ruto visited Kakamega County where he witnessed memorial service for Boni Khalwale's wife.

The DP insisted that he's the right person to unite Luhyas, arguing that both Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula should consider working with him.

"I have wanted to meet Mudavadi and Wetang'ula to agree to work together especially in supporting one of their own (Mariga) in the Kibra by-election. This should be the beginning of a unified Luhya community," he said.
