Kenya and Jamaica will closely work together on matters sports, with athletics being one of the area the two countries shall explore, President Uhuru Kenyatta has said.
Uhuru and Michael Holnes agreed to work together in different areas to ensure the two nations realise development. Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in power, said that Sports is among the areas they want to put emphasis.
“Kenya and Jamaica agreed to cooperate in the area of sports especially in athletics, a sport in which the two countries are global icons with Kenya leading in medium and long distances while Jamaica being a leader in short distance running,” he said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta also revealed that Kenyan and Jamaica share cordial ties.
Speaking in Kingston, Jamaica, Uhuru said that he has relatives from Jamaica and there many of the country’s citizens in Kenya.
He alluded that the wife’s brother’s mother comes from Jamaica. He also told Prime Minister Andrew Holness Jamaicans have homes in Kenya.
“The Prime Minister was telling me that Jamaican Diaspora is everywhere and almost every country on this earth so he was wondering if there is a Jamaican diaspora in Kenya and I told him that yes I can confirm given the fact that wife’s brother’s mother comes from Jamaica and she lives in Kenya and she has lived there all her life,” he said in part.
