Renowned University of Nairobi (UON) scholar and political analyst Herman Manyora has contended that proponents of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and veteran Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga are keen on deconstructing DP Ruto's hustler's narrative.

Speaking on Sunday in an interview on K24 TV, the UON don said that the hustler's narrative being advanced by the Deputy President Dr William Ruto was proving to be a powerful political force, feeding desperation from his political opponents to deconstruct it.

"This hustler narrative spells tragedy for the handshake team, they have to counter it. If they don't counter the hustler narrative, it will clear them. So this Ruto man is not a man you can play around with," Manyora argued.

DP Ruto continues to take attacks mounted by the Kieleweke, Team Wanjiku, and Embrace teams in what political pundits see as desperate efforts at derailing his 2022 presidential ambitions.

The DP has long styled himself as a self-made politician who rose against all odds from a poor background to national prominence, leading to the hustler narrative.

He has employed that narrative as an attempt at identifying with the ordinary Kenyans who constitute the bulk of the voters in the country.
