A family in Muteithia village, Maraigushu, Naivasha is in shock after a Standard six pupil reportedly committed suicide on Wednesday afternoon.
The pupil at Koinange Primary School allegedly hanged himself after his parents asked him to repeat standard six, over his poor performance in school.
Naivasha police boss Samuel Waweru confirmed the incident, adding that the body of the minor was found within the family’s compound after he hanged himself on a tree.
“We have opened an inquest file as it is the norm following the suicide incident, and this will help us in our investigations,” he said as quoted by the Star.
Reports indicate that the boy was against calls by his parents to repeat class 6.
A neighbour, only identified as Kimani, said the parents had asked their son to consider repeating the class to better his grades.
The boy rejected the idea since he had in the past repeated a class due to poor performance, and after the disagreement with his parents he left the house.
Kimani said the family was shocked moments later when they found their son's body hanging on a tree.
“The siblings say that the boy left them inside the house before they found his body dangling from a tree within their compound,” he added.
