Over the last few months, the Mt Kenya region has been at the centre of all major political activities in the country.
With 2022 politics in play, two political groups have emerged with female politicians right at the centre of the region's power play games.
So, who are these daring women taking their male counterparts head-on?
Sabina Chege
Since her election as Murang'a Woman Representative in 2013, Sabina Chege has been one of the most recognizable political faces in the region. Seen by many as a sober politician in the country, she has been at the forefront defending President Uhuru Kenyatta, like when he was recently attacked by Kandara MP Alice Wahome. She is an active member of 'Team Embrace'.
Alice Wahome
Over the last few days, her name has been trending in political circles. Why? Because she took the President head-on amid claims that he is planning to go for another political seat at the end of his presidential term.
As the chairperson of 'Inua Mama' political grouping that is allied to Deputy President William Ruto, Wahome has emerged as the DP's staunch supporter in his presidential ambitions. Despite her brand of politics coming under sharp criticism, the lawmaker seems undeterred.
Martha Karua
She doesn't even need an introduction. Her political career spans over three decades. Known by many as 'Iron Lady', Karua represented Gichugu constituency for four uninterrupted terms from 1992 to 2013. She also served in Cabinet for 6 years.
Though she doesn't hold any elective position after her failed bid for Kirinyaga Governor seat, Karua's political voice is respected across the country. When she speaks, people listen.
For now, she seems to have assumed a neutral political stance.
Ann Waiguru
Probably the Johnny-come-lately of Central Kenya politics, Waiguru is one of the most vocal politicians in the region today.
As a key defender of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga, every political step she makes is closely monitored.
