Former American professional boxer and now professional boxing promoter Floyd Mayweather has opened about his wealth after he was ranked top highest-paid athletes of the decade by Forbes' recent findings.
Forbes on Tuesday released a list of 10 names of highly paid athletes of the decade, listing Floyd Mayweather at number one with footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi settling on position two and three receptively.
Unfortunately, Kenyan athlete who recently managed to run a marathon under two hours, Eliud Kipchoge, did not make it on the list.
Floyd Mayweather has said he earned the amount in just five years and not ten as Forbes had noted.
In a post on his Instagram account on Wednesday, the boxer said he earned the money even before he started appearing on endorsements.
"First I want to congratulate every other athlete on this list and second I am honored to have accomplished such record breaking numbers. No disrespect to anyone but I did these numbers really in 5 years due to a couple of layoffs and with NO endorsements. I never wanted an endorsement deal from anyone because my vision was always to be my own boss and have no obligations to anyone," read his post in part.
The boxer said the numbers he has managed to collect for himself are true and it is because of his hard work.
"So I started my own promotion company and own brand (TMT) in which we are continuing to grow and soon will be the endorsers. You can say what you want about Floyd Mayweather but the numbers and accolades don’t lie. This is truly about hard work and dedication and knowing your worth," he added.
According to the Sun, Floyd Mayweather made a total of $915 million in the past 10 years.
Other key names which made it to the top then list include the NBA player LeBron James, who was ranked at number 4 with $680 million while Tennis hero Roger Federer, closed the top 5 list with $640 million.
