Uasin Gishu First Lady Lucy Mandago has called on mothers to avail their girls for Human Papilloma Virus vaccination (HPV).
She said this will prevent them from cervical cancer which has claimed many lives.
“The national vaccination exercise against cervical cancer has kicked off in all counties and I urge parents with ten-year-old girls to bring them for the vaccination,” she urged.
The First Lady who spoke after flagging off the exercise on Monday said this will reduce cancer prevalence drastically.
“This exercise is for everyone there we should sensitize everyone on the exercise so that every girl aged 10 years is vaccinated so that the disease may be prevented earlier,” added the Uasin Gishu first lady.
Uasin Gishu County Executive for Health, Evelyne Rotich, said the exercise targets to vaccinate about 30,000 girls in Uasin Gishu County and that it will be undertaken in all the facilities across the county.
The CEC hinted that the jab has been established to prevent at least 40 other disease-causing organisms and called on women to take advantage of the exercise by visiting facilities for cancer screening.
The vaccination exercise is funded by the national government.
