New York based deaf man has moved to court to sue several porn companies including Pornhub, for not captioning and availing subtitles for their videos thus he "cannot enjoy video content”.
Yaroslav Suris, according to the lawsuit filed on Thursday in the Eastern District of New York, has been watching adults videos from Pornhub since October 2019 to January 2020. During that time, he has not been fully enjoying the content because he cannot hear the voices of the actors and the actress or see any captions.
In the lawsuit, the man also highlighted some of the videos that lacked captions.
According to Suris, the porn companies have ignored those with hearing problems, which he termed as discrimination and a violation of the deaf's rights as per the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
According to the US Department of Labour, ADA does not allow people with disabilities to be discriminated in the areas of "employment, transportation, public accommodations, communications and access to state and local government programs and services".
"Websites that prevent accessibility to deaf and hard of hearing individuals is a discriminatory act," the lawsuit reads.
Pornhub Vice President Corey Price who partially commented on the lawsuit said that their company has a "closed captions category".
"We understand that Yaroslav Suris is suing Pornhub for claiming we’ve denied the deaf and hearing-impaired access to our videos. While we do not generally comment on active lawsuits, we’d like to take this opportunity to point out that we do have a closed captions category," Price said.
