Mathare Member of Parliament Anthony Oluoch has defended the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over allegations of resorting to violence in the ongoing Kibra campaigns.
ODM supporters have been accused of vandalism, following the destruction of campaign materials and a car belonging to Jubilee Party's McDonald Mariga last week.
But Oluoch now claims that the party is clean, alleging that the Jubilee side stage managed the entire scene with the intention of soiling ODM's reputation ahead of the November 7 mini poll.
He suspected that Mariga and team bashed the vehicle and destroyed the other campaign materials so as to succeed in portraying the party as a violent side, for political mileage.
"We are seeing excuses, where ODM is being accused of causing chaos and destroying Mariga's car. Jubilee should stop bashing their vehicles and badmouthing and accusing us of being violent (Tunaona visingizio eti ODM imeleta ghasia na kuharibu gari za Mariga. Jubilee waache kubash gari zao halafu wanatuharibia jina eti ODM inapenda fujo)," he said.
The lawmaker made the remarks on Radio Jambo's Mazungumzo Waziwazi show on Wednesday night.
He pointed out that the Jubilee side has run out of ideas, and lacks a campaign basis against ODM, especially after the party (ODM) held peaceful nominations.
The lawmaker said that this is also proof that ODM has reformed from its initial state where fracas was considered one if its characteristics, which clears it's name in Mariga's claims.
"We began peacefully at the nominations, these are just allegations (Sisi tulianza na amani kwa nominations. Hizi ni allegations tu)," he added.
Mariga has since stated that the alleged violence against him will not bow him from the race to clinch the much sought after seat.
