Mr Odinga will be returning to North Rift after two years. The last time he visited was in 2017 during campaigns where he lost to Jubilee in the region.

On Sunday, Mr Odinga will grace the retirement of Ruth Kiptoo, mother-in-law to Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny, a rebel within Jubilee party.

“I have received the invite and I will personally be there to welcome the former prime minister,” said Mr Tolgos.“

Kutuny, a critic of Deputy President William Ruto, is set to drum support for the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

"On behalf of my family, I take this opportunity to welcome the public and all leaders to attend the event,” Mr Kutuny told the Saturday Nation.

Last month, Tolgos who was elected on a Jubilee ticket, ditched Deputy President William Ruto for Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who is also set to contest for presidency.

“I am neither in Tanga Tanga nor Kieleweke teams but I do not like the way members of the Tanga Tanga team are doing their things. It should be known that I will never be part of that team.

"I like the way Gideon Moi is doing his business. He does not insult anyone and will respect you for who you are. He is just like me,” the governor told the Nation.
