Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has urged Western Kenya leaders to rally behind one of their own in the 2022 presidential race.
Speaking in Kakamega on Saturday, Malala said the region will not work with jokers, adding that it will only support politicians we a clean political background.
“We cannot trust leaders like Boni Khalwale to lead us to a formidable coalition headed to 2022 yet they have created a habit of running to Ruto for financial help and humiliating our community.
"We must rally behind one of our own and we have given Musalia Mudavadi one last chance to show us the way forward and chose carefully on whom to work with,” Malala said as quoted by Standard.
He, however, cautioned Mudavadi against teaming up with leaders who can taint his image, and reduce his chances of winning the presidential race.
"We don’t want to be associated with leaders who have a contentious background and as ANC and the community we will make our wise decision even if it means working with Odinga again," he opined.
On his part, Navakholo MP Emannuel Wangwe said the Western Kenya block is ready to work with other serious leaders as it seeks to be part of the government after the 2022 general polls.
He urged Mudavadi, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who have declared interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta to team up for better results.
"We have to show unity and ensure we can front one strong candidate and look for a serious winning formula ahead of 2022,” he said.
